Hami melon and seaweed

Part of being Soren means having a semi-eccentric childhood. While he loves strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, watermelon, and plums, Soren is also being introduced to other foods. On Saturday, he had his first taste of lychee. Yesterday, he had a Hami melon for the first time.

Hami melon-- let me tell you, if you haven't tried it, you should. It tastes like a cross between cantaloupe (but much milder) and almond. It's called a "snow melon" and tastes really sweet, delicate, smooth, and crisp. Wonder-wonder-wonderful.

Also yesterday, Soren was bursting at the seams for me to open a new container of Nori-- that is, dried seaweed. Would you believe that he loves it? I remember having favorite foods as a kid, but they definitely did not originate anywhere near Asia. Or the ocean floor.

We've made it a priority to feed ourselves well, and we are eating organic, local, and fresh whenever possible. It felt like a splurge at first, but we all feel the difference and almost NEVER get sick. In fact, the only time i get sick is when i am either not sleeping or catching poison ivy, which i apparently love to do. That's a story for another day.
